The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated by Bishop McManus
at St. Paul's Cathedral with those from other city parishes on May 7th.

This is general information about our programs as we begin another year.  Other
questions can be addressed by calling the parish at 508-754-5361.
All families should attend Mass either before or after Religious Education classes.

                GRADE 1
The content of the class work is based on the Sunday scripture readings, specifically the
Gospel for the Sunday of the weekend that the class is held.

GRADES 2 - 6
In grade 2, we offer a program that prepares children to receive the Sacraments of
Reconciliation and Eucharist.  In grades 3-6, classes will be using a textbook which focuses
on content-centered catechesis, while incorporating liturgical catechesis and study of
Scripture.

GRADES 7 - 10
Classes will meet on occasional Sundays, very late afternoon through early evening.  The
program will challenge students to learn about what it means to be Catholic, express what
they believe, and understand what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.

Monsignor Thomas Sullivan is coordinating the catechetical team working with Grades 7 - 10
and the Sacrament of Confirmation.  He can be emailed at
tsullivan5@mac.com.  He can be
telephoned at 508-754-5361.

*** Preparation for the Sacraments ***

                Reconciliation

 (First Penance):

The preparation takes place during the regularly scheduled religious education classes, and
the program is designed for all public, private, and Catholic school students. It is most helpful
that parents participate in the decision of whether their children are able to understand right
from wrong and that sin is a deliberate action against God’s love.

                       Eucharist

 (First Holy Communion):

The immediate preparation for First Holy Communion takes place during the regularly
scheduled religious education classes, and the program is designed for all public, private and
Catholic school students.

Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must submit copies of their baptism certificate.

Confirmation:

Attendance is expected at all classes since they are not regular.
The date and other information regarding a special retreat for all candidates will be
announced at the September Parents-Candidates meeting.

Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must submit copies of their baptism  certificate.

The date for the celebration of Confirmation is not known to us.  The Bishop’s Office
schedules the spring dates in the late (previous) fall.  Those parishes which have 20
candidates or more are permitted a special celebration at the parish church.  All others
receive Confirmation at St. Paul’s Cathedral in what is known as a Multi-Parish Confirmation.

Important Information for Closings/Cancellations:

If inclement weather occurs during the weekend and it is necessary to cancel classes, please
listen to WTAG 96.1 FM or go to their website (www.WTAG.com). Additionally, we will post
cancelled classes onto the parish homepage website:
www.christthekingma.org.

We will also send an email out to all families in our system. If you would like to receive these
notices, please be sure to submit your email address to the appropriate Religious Education
Coordinator:

If you have questions or concerns please call 508-754-5361.
